Z/Os Vsam Extended Addressability

Maximum VSAM Data Set Size. z/OS DFSMS Using Data Sets. SC23-6855-00. A VSAM data set is limited to 4 GB across all volumes unless ExtendedAddressability is specified in the SMS data class definition. Systemrequirements restrict the number of volumes that can be used for onedata set to 59.

Extended -Format VSAM Data Sets z/OS DFSMS Using Data Sets SC23-6855-00 … This is called a compressed format data set. Extended addressability . For example, a data set might be a striped compressed format data set with extended addressability . Striping can reduce sequential access time. Compression can reduce the disk space.

z/OS DFSMShsm Implementation and Customization Guide SC23-6869-01 DFSMShsm supports VSAM KSDS extended addressability (EA) capabilities that use any of the following serialization techniques for accessing its control data sets: record level sharing (RLS) access mode, CDSQ serialization, or CDSR serialization.

3/27/2009  · Extended format is a way of storing data in a 3390/3380 logical volume. Extended addressability is the ability of allowing larger VSAM data sets. However, extended format is a pre-prerequisite for extended addressability. Using EA, the size limit for a VSAM data set is determined by either: CI size multiplied by 4 GB.

Specifies that a VSAM data set in the extended format be allocated using extended addressability. This lets the data set grow beyond the four gigabyte (4GB) size. The data set can be a VSAM data set in any record organization but must be allocated in the extended format.

Beginning in z/OS V2R1, you can specify extended addressability for a VSAM linear data set (LDS)that is neither extended-format nor SMS-managed. This allows the LDS to exceed the four-gigabytesize limit of SMS-managed data sets, and thus able to serve as a zFS version root not subject to thesize limits and other restrictions of SMS-management.

I am looking for other stuff which may require changes or a document which explains extended addressability for VSAM in detail. … Abstract: This document organizes 4 other Techdocs which are part of a larger project focusing on Extended Format Datasets in z/OS .
